Speaker Biography: Professor Koji Sode

Koji Sode is Professor of the Department of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He received his PhD from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1989. In 2000, he was promoted to full Professor at the Department of Biotechnology. From 2002 to 2005, he was in charge of the Chair of the Department of Biotechnology. In 2003, he launched a start-up bio-company, “Ultizyme International Ltd.”, in the incubational facility of the University. From 2005, he joined a new graduate school, the Graduate School of Technology Management. Dr. Sode has nearly 20 years of experience in the biotechnology research and education. His current research interests include the development of enzyme, proteins, diagnostic and therapeutics for the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorder and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as the development of new technology for diagnostic tools, together with the strong relationship with industries. He is a pioneer in the design and in the development of engineered enzyme for diagnostic use via protein engineering, especially the development of enzymes for diabetes monitoring.
