Format of the Workshop
A one-day exposure to various aspects of Nanobiosensors. The aim is to brief the audience, especially interested researchers and students, on the forefronts of the research fields of nanobiosensors. The morning session will be consisted of talks on nanosized biosensors and application of nano-materials in biosensors. The afternoon session will include talks on sensor systems that incorporate nanobiosensors or biological nanosensors/machines. In each session, significant time will be available for discussion and questions. There will be no poster presentation.
The official language of the pre-congress workshop will be English.

Topics
Nanosized Biosensors – Why nanosensors? And how to build a biosensor with nano-dimensions? Exploring these issues could help gain the driving forces behind the science in this exciting field of nanobiosensors. The current state of art nanofabrication technologies for sensors will be introduced first. The novel features and potential applications of nanosized biosensors will also be summarized.
Application of nanomaterials in biosensors – With the fast development of nanotechnology in recent years, many nanomaterials have been developed or synthesized in labs and some are commercially available. The quantum effects of the nanomaterials may open unprecedented sensing venues. . Various nanomaterials for biomolecular sensing will be introduced.
Sensor systems that incorporate nanobiosensors or biological sensors/machines – When probing inside a cell, bacterium or even virus, one could find that there are actually many nanosensors/nanomachines working inside to support the biological function of these organisms. Understanding and mimicking these natural biological sensor/machines will not only enrich our knowledge on these organisms but also greatly enhance our skills in nanobiosensors. Nanobiosensors incorporating biological nanosensors/machines will be shown to illustrate this approach.
